Courses


PACS offers Mandarin Chinese classes from kindergarten to 12th grade in two different curricula:

  • Mandarin Curriculum: This is generally designed for students whose primary language at home is Mandarin Chinese.
  • Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) Curriculum: This is generally designed for students whose primary language at home is not Mandarin Chinese.


Mandarin Classes
Classes:
  • K-8th: 中文基礎班(繁體字 Traditional Chinese Characters 教學)
  • 9th -12th: 中文應用班及文化主題課程(繁體字 Traditional Chinese Characters 教學)
 Age: 5 years old new student who can speak Chinese or 6 -18 years old, new or transfer student who can read, write and speak Chinese
Time: 7-9 PM, Friday
Rules:
  1. Kindergarten students must be at least 5 years old by 9/1 of the entering school year. Proof of age document must be presented at the time registration.
  2. Transfer students are subject to an entrance exam assessment for grade level.


Preschool Chinese Class
Classes: For preschool aged children who are interested in learning Chinese
Age: 4-6 years old
Time: 7:15-8:45 PM, Friday

Rules:
  1. Preschool students must be at least 4 years old by 9/1 of the entering school year. Proof of age document must be presented at the time registration.


Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) Program
Classes:
  • All CSL classes are for non-native students or students with limited Chinese speaking background.
  • 繁體字教學 Teaches traditional Chinese characters and PinYin
  • Nine levels of CSL classes
    • Intro, Foundation 1 and 2:  for students beginning to learn the language.
    • Intermediate 1, 2 and 3:  for students who have completed our Foundation classes, have acquired some basic vocabularies and sentence patterns. and are capable of basic listening, speaking and reading skills.
    • Advanced 1, 2 and 3:  for students who have completed our Intermediate and Foundation classes, have acquired enough vocabularies and sentence patterns to be able to create new sentence within context.
Age: 5 and up
  • Students 5 years old and up with no prior knowledge of Mandarin Chinese shall start at Intro level (see Rules 1).
  • Only the levels Foundation 1, Intermediate 1 and Advanced 1 are open to new or transfer students.  Entrance exam assessment is required for new or transfer students entering Foundation 1, Intermediate 1 and Advanced 1.
  • Other levels are not open to new or transfer students. No assessment will be offered for other levels.
Time: 7-9 PM, Friday

Calligraphy Classes

Calligraphy classes started in 2006. It has become a very popular adult Calligraphy Class. The students are active in Calligraphy exhibits and 
  1. Calligraphy 1: For age 7 and up, 7-8 PM, Tuesday
  2. Calligraphy 2: For adults, 7-9 PM, Monday
